Factory not coming

Even before the Standard hits the streets, we are breaking it here. The company, Fox Apparel Inc., from Asheboro, N.C., has released "all offers on the Elkton plant and the possibility of a manufacturing plant in Kentucky at this time," according to a letter by the company's president Wallace C. Thompson.

That means no jobs for many Flynn workers who were waiting to see what would happen and unemployment will stay at a steady high for a while.

Look in this week's Standard for more.

Eakles retires

Mr. Eakles is stepping down as the top man in the school system. It is our understanding that some are happy to see him go and some think this might be the ruin of the school system.

What do you think?

He was responsible for considerable growth for the district.

But, he was also seen as abrasive and the "growth" indirectly caused school lunches to be raised in one of the poorest counties in the Commonwealth.

So, is his leaving a good thing or signs of bad times to come?

We are back!!!

Sorry, but with illness in the family and a very hectic June, we are just now back to blogging.

Many things have happened. And there is much to discuss. Today we will post two big items that should get us all back into the swing of things.
