We are back!!!

OK, I know... I know... we have not been very good bloggers but as you can tell we are back and ready to discuss Todd County News.

So, today is a free-for-all. What is the topic that you feel most needs to be discussed this week?

Welcome back! When will the new school superintendent be appointed & why did the school board not accept the search committee's recommendation? Is Ben Drummond still suspended with pay? Why do we taxpayers owe him a paid vacation when he is charged with raping a student? Does anyone understand this? When will our sheriff's department start answering calls? When will our new jail be finished or paid for?

Well,

The school board were the ones that selected the candidate committee, but they felt they should handle it themselves. It is very odd, but not illegal.
Did I mention it was odd?

Drummond's status is normal for employees suspended with pay. That is Bruce Gray's call and always has been, but it is better to treat all suspended employees the same no matter what the reason for the suspension might be.

The sheriff department is answering calls... now.

The jail should be finished between April and July and not a minute sooner.

So, basically, know one knows for sure not even the guys that are building the place.

Thanks for the questions.

It's no wonder that Todd County's growth has utterly stagnated. Maybe if the Boys' Club who run the county had allowed some business development fifteen or twenty years ago, my generation could have half a chance of making a living without needing to drive 30 miles away from Elkton. Why on earth would any factory come here now? Trying to keep our quaint little area untouched will soon make it nothing better than a ghost town.

Congrats to the Standard on all of the KPA kudos and awards! There is always something to read in the Standard these days.

Keep up the good work!

Congrats on the awards. As a new-comer here (will be one year since we moved here from Clarksville)it is nice to see a newspaper ask the hard questions of the local government and to hold them accountable (the paper in Clarksville, The Leaf Chronicle, is often lacking in this area -- which is why it is often refered to as the "Laughing Chronicle" or "The Leaf Compost".)

Again -- congrats!!

I'd like to know why we can't seem to name a school superintendent.

I was thinking that the previous School Board may have chosen to wait until the 2007 Board was sworn in, just as a courtesy since those five members would be working with the new superintendent. Now I am beginning if there is some sort of an undercurrent of discontent.

Personally, I think it would be a wonderful thing to Mike Kenner work his magic with our county. He has been here all along, rising through the ranks...teacher, middle school assistant principal, elementary school principal, another important position helping schools in decline, and now serving as interim principal at Todd Central.

You know, I just like Mike and I think he would do everything he possibly could to have our school system reach goals.

Sure, the School Board is not bound to the search committee's choices, but it is good to have the Board acknowledge the committee's work.
