Stokes has hearing

Todd County Sheriff W.D. "Billy" Stokes pled "not guilty" to misdemeanor charges this morning (April 21) in Logan District Court.

There will be a pre-trial conference on May 12 at 10 a.m. — though officials did say the time might be subject to change.

Stokes told the Standard that he wouldn't hire an attorney and would represent himself.

For more reaction from Stokes and the Logan County Attorney's office, see the Wednesday (April 23) edition of the Todd County Standard.

After reading all the articles on our so called "sheriff", one question has been lingering and I have not seen answered. He "claims" that the reason he was parked in the handicap spot was because there were 3 Todd Co emergencies that he needed to hurry to. Has anyone requested tapes of him calling to notify that he was going to respond, or check to see if he even showed up at any of them? I'm sure he headed straight home and never intended to go to any of them in the first place, but just using that as an excuse.

I just can't keep quiet on Stokes' comment in the Standard this week!!! He said "What's the worst that can happen? I pay a fine? I go to jail for 30 days? I can use the rest!" REST????? Rest from what????? Sitting on his BEHIND in the office doing nothing? Calling television stations and feeding them a bunch of crap? He doesn't even go to the office much during the day to avoid running into people! I hope if he does go to jail he goes to the Todd County Detention Center. I bet he doesn't get special treatment there! Hey Ryan....another thing you need to investigate. There is a rule at the detention center that no one is to give inmates anything. What about the pictures a certain courthouse employee has of him handing an inmate something throught the fence when outside? You would think he should know better than that? What about the rumors of him having one of the jail employees with him and having him to slash the tires of a certain courthouse employee? What about him taking inmates out of town overnight and putting them up in a hotel without supervision? Does this sound like something a "so called sheriff" should be doing? Or one that "supposedly" is upholding the law?

If you read the blogs at Th New Era someone pointed out that they did check and that there were no emergencies during the time he was at the Russellville Wal-Mart. Just more boggus trash from Stokes trying to cover his butt. If you read the last issue of the Standard with the 911 call Stokes made it home in time to call Draper at home. He responded like he always does. NOT! Time for a new "sheriff"

Please find a copy of the petition to remove Stokes from office and sign your name.

Seriously though, what can a petition do? I think I've read in several articles that it would not be able to 'impeach' Stokes or remove him from office in any way. The Standard needs to report just what exactly are the steps taken to remove a county sheriff from office and who is in charge of that. I don't think that Fiscal Court can legally do anything about it, though I'm sure they wish they could!

I am just sick of Billy Stokes in general. He has nothing but caused trouble in Todd County in general. He has stopped going to the fisical court meetings because he does not get what he wants. He goes to another county and causes trouble. He does not respond to any accidents or other calls and refers them to the Kentucky State Police. Then I just read last week that he would like to have a trial because of the charges in Logan County.

I have one thing to say about Mr. Stokes is that it is time for you to rethink about what you said when you ran. You have caused nothing but trouble since taking office. You have two deputies (one that was recently arrested in Hopkinsville for DUI that needs to be let go) who need to have a better leader than you. You are nothing but a disgrace to this county and to every police officer that you have EVER worked with. Excuse or not, we need someone who is willing to work with people instead of what we have now and is willing to serve and protect.

I have read everything that was published with this incident that was published in the Todd County Standard (including the transcript from the Logan County EOC) and I will be on of the first to say that it is time for Billy Stokes to go.

This is typical "good ole boy" behavior. Billy grew up in Todd County and believes he can get away with anything he wants. You people voted Billy into his current position. What is wrong with you? He was an idiot in High School and continues to be one. Ya'll have been around him long enough to know what he is like yet you still voted him into office. Next time you need to think a little before you vote the "hometown boy" into a position of power.
