Jail comments

So, we've had a couple comments on the jail and the jailer in the mascot thread, so I say let's air it out here so all the posts will be in one place:

Is the jail being ran efficiently?

Or do the woes come from the state cutting the counties throats by releasing about every other prisoner early?

Also, and this is just an observation, do any jailers in this state really run the day-to-day operations. It might of happened here when we had 16 beds, but is that reasonable to expect now?

Discuss away ...

It is being ran by people who never even stepped foot into a jail much less know how to run one. Just because you sell insurance or have military background, does not qualify you to run a jail. It is a totally different world. You should not be in a leadership position unless you know how to lead and you must learn how to follow first. You can not run a jail from behind a desk. Take it from a few of us that used to work there that came from better ran facilities. If DOC knew what really went on there, it would have been shut down a long time ago. Thank God the inmates are at the level they are, because if they were at a higher level, they would not be able to handle them. The ones that they considered being trouble at that jail, they shipped because they are intimidated and afraid of confrontation. That is why they are not full. It is a county facility housing state inmates doing a poor job of it. Ask the surrounding counties how they are doing? They think it is a joke. The inmates run that jail. Now, when someone comes to actually run that jail wants to change the way it is ran, they are going to have trouble. The Chief wants all inmates to be above level 3, but they do not want to train their deputies to encounter these types of inmates. Someone is going to get hurt. They are worried about being sued, but once a deputy gets hurt, guess what is going to happen. They will be liable. When people do have great ideas, they are intimidated and they get rid of good experienced deputies. Or spread lies about those deputies without having proof.

Why do you think DOC keeps coming in to check up on the jail? They will keep on coming until they do it right. Mr. Allen is not a people person. He will hire people to do one job, then puts them to do something else. For example, in my case. I am an elderly, overweight woman, who can not walk very well. He hired me to do control, which means I can sit and open doors and watch the cameras. This young lady he hires for the jail comes and is scared to be out on the floor. He makes me go out on the floor and leaves her in control. I had to quit because I could not go up and down those steps. It makes no sense. He talks about other deputies in front of everyone. He just is not right for this position. I do not know about the first comment made, but this is about my situation I had with him.

I never gave my vote to mr. allen in the first place.I thought his republican challenger was more qualified to do the job for tc-jailer.I have nothing against mr. allen i just thought the other person was more ready and expierienced for the jailer job.And i am a democratic party voter.

Is the problems with the tc-jail in house matters that mr. allen can fix , or does this take action by are todd county-ky judge executive and the todd county-ky fiscal court to fix and correct any problems.Could the past and present problems with the todd county-ky sheriff's offices be causing and effecting how the matters at the todd county-ky jail are being run and operated.

Mr. Allen could fix them if he wanted to, but he chooses not to. I don't know if he is to scared to or it's easier to believe there is not a problem.

The inmates have told Mr. Allen that they would put those filters in. All he had to do is purchase them. I heard this from an inmate himself. And I heard that the deputies had to buy their own uniforms, so why $1800.

i actually had read a story about an inmate escaping from the jail and it was due to an officer leaving his keys on the desk and the inmate had taken them and unlocked the draw and took the keys and walked right out the door???....i also know someone who is in their right now and he said their is only about 147 inmates but he said it is actually very layed back. i try to find more information on this jail but i can never find anything really. is it because they are such a small jail??...i also was wondering why they charge working inmates a 50 dollar booking fee and 20 dollars a day for room and board i can understand for charging them cause that is only right if they are working but how much are they getting paid a day and seriously they aren't getting paid more than 20 dollars a day, i also read about their debts with inmates regarding booking fees. of course every inmate will be in dept with the jail due to not making enough. now how stupid is that? and if this is a jail for felony offenders why is it a county jail and not a state jail? i dont understand why the state then bothers to transfer inmates from louisville correctional center to another county jail that is a waste of gas and our tax dollars. this is ridiculous. why not send them back so their families can visit them instead of driving almost 3 hours

As far as the upcoming election, I think that the county citizens should know a few things that are going on in the day-to-day operations of the Todd County Jail.
First of all i know first hand jailer is dating an ex-inmate of the todd county jail. She lives with him. What kind of message is this sending to the citizens of the county we are here to protect. Also greg Allen(Jailer) has a chief deputy who broke the biggest administrative code of the whole facility. He was caught with a jail sgt. I know because the speakers in the facility tell all. Jailer allen knew about it and never done anything. I guess if you are doing it yourself you can't punish others for the same actions. Incident reports are a real joke in the todd county jail, because it states at the bottle (failed to obey jail rules). Also he has walked this inmate through the jail where her ex-husband is incarcerated at this time. She is not even supposed to be brought inside the jail period. This by the way was in a high risk security incident when all the power was lost to the jail due to our owe jailer not checking the generator for diesel. He put us deputies in harms way without even a care to our safety while this matter was taking place. Do you honestly want someone like greg allen running this jail. We even have had another escape since he has been in term. Go figure! All of us were given a badge and swarn in to do and obey the laws of our position, and we feel we are the only ones that do. These people need to be voted out now before we suffer even more dangerous issues in the future.

I, at first had decided not respond to the last comment left on this page but since it involves my husband and I, I felt it best to clarify a bit of misinformation.

My name is Amber Wood and I am the Sgt. referred to in the last comment posted. I was an employee of the jail for almost a year and my husband is the Chief Deputy.

My husband and I began dating in the later part of May 2009. At which time, I resigned my position at the jail. That is why no disciplinary action was ever taken by Jailer Allen. In order for a deputy to recieve disciplinary action, a wrongdoing must have occurred and it was found that both my husband and I violated no rules found within the Administrative Code.

We were never "caught" as the last post suggested because we had nothing to hide. It is easier for some to believe there was some sensational story behind our relationship but we are simply two people who met, fell in love, and married and would like to continue on with our lives without rumor and insinuations.

It is also my belief that none of the rules written into the Administrative Code are any greater or less than the others, therefore we did not break the "biggest".

Jailer Allen and the deputies at the Todd County Detention Center have grown the jail into a facility that is a vast improvement over what the jail once was and I feel it was an honor to work there.

For those that choose to look past the mud-slinging being done by some and instead choose to look at the facts including the revenue and employment opportunities that the jail has brought to Todd County, you will be able to make a much more informed decision in the future.

Also, there is a new lawsuit from an ex-mate of the detention center who is sewing Greg Allen and his deputies. She claims they beat her up for her asking for her reading glasses. Chief Wood, Major Christmas, Lt. Goff, Captain Dunning are named in the lawsuits too. I believe this is very sad that a jailer allows his deputies to beat up on their inmates. She was a state inmate too. They finally shipped her. That means less money for Todd County. Especially, if we loose the lawsuite. Google it. The inmates name is Mary Ford.

Really now, the Jailer allows his Deputies to beat up on inmates. Do you really believe that people are so naïve that just because you write something on a blog that they will believe it?

You yourself might want to “Google” it again. On the web it says “Charles, Dusty Dunning, Goff and Christmas”.

I say you’re an ex employee because you were able to match the ranks up but failed to realize that there’s a lot of people with the same first name. So your above post is a FALSE STATEMENT!!!!

In the future you might want to make sure you have your facts before posting something on this blog because if your trying to make the Jail look bad your only making yourself look ridiculous by posting inaccurate statements then telling people where to look it up so they can see your wrong.

All the above slandering is obviously just dirty politics. I find it unusual that all of these “bad” things are just now coming to surface since it is so close to election time. It even looks like a Deputy from the Jail (which must have been given their job by the current Jailer) has turned against his/her employer. I ask all readers of this post to go out and meet your candidates for Jailer, Sheriff, Judge Executive etc. sit down with them and form your own opinion of them. That’s what politics is all about, not a bunch of slanderous remarks that are unsupported by an anonymous writer on a blog.
