Not out of the woods yet

The city of Elkton should be commended for passing such a strict and effective adult business ordinance. Let's all hope it holds up in court.

Even with the passing of the ordinance, the cat is out of the bag and the rest of the county is wide open for adult business.

Hey, wait; there is the 1986 law that bans pornography. That should protect us. Yeah, and if you believe that then I have some swampland to sell you in Arizona...

It is time we stop posturing like this county could stop an adult business from coming in. Someone with deep pockets and a good lawyer would go through the 1986 law like me at all-you-can-eat shrimp at Red Lobster.

We need to have the county to finally either put up some laws concerning zoning like Elkton did, or to designate areas or "business districts" that could keep the adult businesses in only certain areas of the county like next door to the chicken egg plant in South Todd.

Then we could have laws in place inside those areas that would limit the where, when and how much when it comes to adult businesses.

The real scary part in all this is that if someone is really smart they will get near some lotto stores in Guthrie or near Exit 1 in Trenton and we all will wear a black eye because that will be the first thing people coming into that end of the county will see when they visit.

Just ask people in Upton, Ky., what that's like. Because nothing says, "Welcome to Todd County" like a gigantic XXX sign!!!

Titans come to town (almost)

Perhaps this is a little cynical, but Tennessee Titan fans are invited to go to HOPKINSVILLE and see the Titans Caravan IX this coming Monday. And what star players are going to be there? Courtney Roby and Roydell Williams!!!

Who?

It seems that the Titans are so busy locking out Steve McNair and trying to keep Pac-Man Jones out of jail that they can only send good, young players who are so new to their contracts that they can't say no to traveling to Kentucky to meet fans.

Perhaps, they are the only players that are coming back for sure? Still, there is no way I would spend expensive gasoline to drive to Hopkinsville to see mid-level Titans when it past years there where Pro-Bowl talent on the Caravan.

Let's just look at it as an omen of what next season will bring... about 10 or 12 losses....

Oh, well, if you happen to being driving by and see the Caravan I guess you could stop for the autograph of the one famous person who will be in Hopkinsville — T-Rac. The guy in a raccoon suit that loves to drive small motorcycles and throws things at fans. Still, you have to wonder what T-Rac's autograph looks like?

I record EVERYTHING!!!

There has been a rumble around that the Standard misquoted Billy Fowler and Tammy Robertson's conversation in fiscal court last week. While I will admit that there are a few seconds when they are both talking and you can't understand what they are saying... the last part of the conversation (what ran in the paper) which has the most heated exchange is clear as a bell. If you'd like, the tape is at the Standard office and I'd be glad to play the conversation for anyone that wants to listen. Questioning the integrity of the Standard is comical when you compare it to the outbursts we’ve seen in public meetings in the past six months!!!

Also, Kent Knight's office has a recording. I would imagine that it might be a little more clear since I was sitting too close to Tammy and her voice was loudest. Go about 45 minutes or so into the meeting...

Also, and this is just a warning to EVERYONE out there. Be careful what you say and how you say it at the public meetings, because if the outbursts keep happening I will run the conversations verbatim (warts and all) in the paper for all to read. We need to conduct the county's business like adults... at times I've seen better run monkey fights at the zoo!!!!

Budget time

Pity your elected officials... from now until June they will have to work together to put out a budget that won't break this county....

Let's all bow our heads and say a little prayer.

Help???!!!

After having more recipes than we can possibly publish the past few months the Standard is out. Bone dry after next week.

If you or anyone you know has a good recipe or wants to put one in the paper, have them drop it the office or mail it P.O. Box 308.

Thanks.

Apathy in Todd County?

There have been several letters to the editor in the Standard about the Adult business that may or may not come to Todd County, but only on the blog have there been anyone that thinks it is just another business...

Is the furor against the adult business as big as it seems, or do most people NOT care either way?

I guess we can find out when the local goverment bodies start having their meetings to set the "community standards?"

Storm

For those of you who are weather junkies... the storm was a strong F-2, went 30 miles and had about a 700 yard width.

It was nasty and if not for the sparce population and hills of North Todd, it would have brought simular or worse havoc than what happened in Christian County.

Here's the question of the day... how prepared are we for that kind of disaster?

How about something that is just as real and possible, an earthquake?
