Jail

The $3.9 million jail project is perhaps the most polarizing move that has come through the fiscal court in a long, long time. The word on the street is that about half of the county is for it and the other half is against it. The other half (I know this doesn’t add up, but when you hear the word on the street it is often like this) say they don’t know the first thing about the jail either way.

The Standard presented Judge Knight with some options about what he could do to help that, but the suggestions were largely ignored. So like it or not we are going to have a jail unless someone does some legal magic very soon. Still, and this isn’t a joke, something will have to be done about the prisoners in Todd County. No matter what some may think about Jailer Stokes and his politics, the man is right — something will have to be done because we are going broke over hauling prisoners.

Any ideas or suggestions on if the jail is the best option for now, or if there is a better course of action?

I know this is a hot topic, so let’s keep to the topic and not get personal.

The fact is that there will be a jail. And yes, I've already started investigating the pro and cons of the jail. I'm afraid that the foundation will be laid before I can get to the bottom of it, though...

As for the injunction, I heard a group was going to try, but I don't think it is going to happen. I'd be surprised this late in the game if it did.
